Welcome to Clifton Quarry

Clifton Quarry is a sand and gravel quarry located to the south of Kempsey and north of Severn Stoke in Worcestershire. It has been a key source of construction materials for Worcestershire and the surrounding area.

The site is operated by a dedicated team of staff who work hard to ensure operations are carried out safely, with care for the environment and the people living and working near the site.

This website is here to keep you informed – you’ll learn about this history of the quarry, our future plans to operate and restore the site, and how we’re playing our part in the communities around us.

Section 73 Application

We secured planning consent in 2016 for the phased extraction of sand and gravel within an area of 176ha situated both west and east of the A38 (phases A to G). To date, the land to the west (phases A to C) have been extracted and restored.

We are now in the process of preparing a Section 73 application to vary conditions of the existing permission associated with extraction to the east of the A38 (phases D, E, F and G). This is to reflect circumstances that have changed since the consent was originally granted. You can read more about our proposals on the ‘future plans’ page.

We want to understand residents' views on our proposals prior to submitting the application and so we are running a public consultation. The details are as follows:

Public consultation: Monday 13 July to Sunday 16 August 2026

Public exhibition: Tuesday 14 July 2026, 2pm to 6:30pm at Clifton Quarry, A38 Clifton Arles Wood, Worcester, WR8 9JE
